round a square clock

round a square clock

Wouldn't it be better to stop worrying about clocks with wearable devices? It seems that there are a few products with screens that proudly mimic the gorgeous watch faces, but every time I see them, I think that no matter how hard I try, I can't beat the real watch. You could say it's wrong to aim in the same direction.

What impresses me about the Apple Watch is that it has a square dial. I don't know what they thought about choosing a square dial, but I can feel their ambition to reinvent the watch. Not only to know the time, all the information necessary for daily life is delivered to your wrist, and you can smartly know the outline just by turning your wrist, and furthermore, you can take action on that information. There is an element that insists that it is something that is not a watch at all.

Putting a square clock into a circle

In Android Wear, it is divided into two groups, the Maru faction and the Horn faction. LG, which initially debuted as a square model, now offers only a round model. It's interesting to see the difference in thinking in this regard.

However, I think that the Apple Watch has abandoned the fact that it is a watch because it has not fulfilled the most important mission for a watch, which is to tell the time at any time. If the screen display is turned off to save power, it is not possible to know the time when the watch is removed from the wrist and placed by the side. Then, isn't it abandoning its mission as a watch? If so, I don't think it should be called a Watch, and I think it would be better if it claimed another device as an extension of the iPhone screen.

And the Huawei Watch. It's the latest Android Wear device so far. Of course, it can be turned on all the time. As expected, it is a little hard to see in the scorching sun. And only the one with a round board surface is prepared. I think you are thinking of the clock.

The first Android Wear was announced at Google I/O in June 2014, and was subsequently released by three companies. The first generation was the square LG Electronics "G Watch" and Samsung Electronics "Gear Live", and the round Motorola "MOTO 360". I chose the LG machine from among them and operated it for more than a year, and I am still using it. This is because I thought that the square board surface was more advantageous for displaying information, and because I didn't like the texture of the dedicated belt on the Samsung machine, which had the same square shape.

After wearing the round Huawei Watch every day for the past week or so, my thoughts haven't changed. It is impossible to display information in a circle. Again, squares are more reasonable. It's not that I don't understand how rationality can be meaningful. After all, we must respect the obsession that we want the device that is worn all the time on the wrist to be round.
