"HUAWEI P30 Pro" with triple camera + ToF camera

Equipped with a telephoto camera equivalent to 135mm as soon as possible, hybrid zoom up to 10x with reduced image quality deterioration is eye-catching , "HUAWEI P30 Pro" has become a little overshadowed because the release was delayed in September.

The "HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro" has also been announced overseas, but we can't miss the P30 Pro, so I would like to focus on its characteristic telephoto performance.

The difference between the P30 and the P30 Pro already reviewed is the performance of the telephoto camera and the installation of a ToF camera (a camera dedicated to depth measurement, used to measure the distance to the subject).

The breakdown of the three cameras is as follows.

Three cameras installed in the P30 Pro (from Huawei's product launch slides)

The ultra-wide-angle camera is equivalent to 16mm with 20 million pixels. The wide-angle camera is equivalent to 27 mm with 40 million pixels. This is the main camera because the sensor size is large and the lens is bright at F1.6.

The 5x optical zoom camera is equivalent to 125mm with 8 million pixels. Huawei calls it an optical zoom camera, but since the lens itself does not zoom, I think it should be called a telephoto camera.

If it's 5 times the equivalent of 27mm, I think it's equivalent to 135mm, but I'll check that while shooting.

From the usual gas tank anyway. When you open the camera app, a zoom button is displayed at the bottom for horizontal orientation and to the right for vertical orientation.

Default is 1x, 27mm equivalent camera. An ultra-wide-angle camera with 0.6x on the right. The left is a 5x telephoto camera, and the leftmost is a 10x hybrid zoom.

Camera app screen. The four points correspond to 10x, 5x, 1x, and wide angle (0.6x), respectively, and can be switched by tapping.

The wide-angle camera has 40 million pixels and the telephoto camera has 8 million pixels, but normal shooting In the mode, the image is saved in "10 million pixels" size.

However, only the ultra-wide-angle camera records at 20 million pixels, which is the same number of pixels as the sensor. It's a little confusing. I feel that it was all right to unify and record all at 10 million pixel size.

The ultra-wide-angle camera is equivalent to 16mm with 20 million pixels. You can shoot a very wide range. Easy-to-use wide-angle camera (main camera) that properly corrects peripheral distortion. Telephoto camera with good image quality because it produces 10 million pixels from 40 million pixels. 5x for the wide-angle camera. Looking at the shooting data, it is written as "135mm" in "35mm format equivalent", which is somehow different from the manufacturer's official value of 125mm10x hybrid zoom. Equivalent to 270mm. In short, it's a kind of digital zoom, and when you zoom in, you can see that a lot of digital processing has been done, but it's done so well that it doesn't look unnatural

Furthermore, the digital zoom is pushed to the limit. Multiply to get 50x. I'm finally doing it, but it's not bad. However, it is difficult to properly frame the desired subject when the telephoto lens is used.

50x zoom. It's so big

, and when I tried using it, it was a big drop when the next 1x was suddenly 5x. You can zoom in finer by sliding your finger, but the reaction is severe, so it's hard to stop where you want.

You can set the desired magnification by sliding, but the response is so good that it is difficult to stop at the desired magnification

This is already "0.6x → 1x → 2x → 3x → 5x → 10x". I think it should have been about 6 stages. If 1x is followed by 5x, there is a strong feeling that it will suddenly become bigger.
