Review of Sanwa Supply's Bluetooth touchpad "400-MABT128". Did not work on Chromebook

The Bluetooth touchpad "400-MABT128" released by Sanwa Supply on October 20, 2021 is a new Bluetooth (wireless) touchpad that supports 13 types of multi-touch gestures.

Until now, Sanwa Supply has sold a model called "400-MA128" that connects by wire, so you can think of it as a Bluetooth version of it.

Both are handled by Amazon, Rakuten, etc. in addition to the official store, so it is easy to obtain, and I was wondering if it could be used with a Chromebook, so I bought it.

However, as I wrote in the title, I found that it worked fine on Windows and Mac, but it didn't work on Chromebooks.

So, this time, I will review Sanwa Supply's Bluetooth touchpad "400-MABT128", but I hope that you read it on the assumption that it will not work on Chromebooks.

Let's start with the basic specifications. Each number is quoted from the official website.

Like the wired model, it supports up to 13 types of multi-gestures, but there are gestures that are supported or not supported depending on the OS, so it is important which OS and what gesture to use.

It can be used in the same way as the touchpad installed in a general laptop computer, and since it supports basic gestures, it is a touchpad that is easy to handle due to its large size. ..

I think that the degree of perfection is high without feeling the cheapness of seeing the real thing of "400-MABT128".

It's slippery and the size of the pad is large, so it's more comfortable to use than using the touchpad of a small laptop, for example.

The back side is clean and has rubber feet to prevent slipping.

Basically, the touchpad does not move when you are using it, so it is stable and comfortable to use.

There is a power button, a pairing button, and a USB-C port on the back side from the normal position of the main body.

  • It's great to have a USB-C port instead of the usual microUSB, and you can use it with a Bluetooth connection while charging, but keep in mind that it can't be used as a wired connection.

The red LED lights up during charging, and the blue LED lights up and blinks when connected via Bluetooth such as pairing.

As a point to note when pairing, pairing may not be successful (timeout) depending on the timing of pressing the button, so you need to try it several times.

In addition, it supports multi-pairing (up to 2 units), and you can switch the connection destination by pressing and holding the pairing button for 3 seconds, so it was convenient to use a computer or tablet properly. By the way, it takes about 5 to 7 seconds to switch.

Although it is easy to use as a touchpad, the feature of "400-MABT128" is that it also supports multi-touch gestures.

The above image is taken from the official operation method, but the operations that can be performed on Windows and Mac are slightly different.

Also, in Windows, you can change some gestures, but for example, you could not change the scroll direction (scroll to XX in down motion) or whether or not you press and right-click.

It may be possible to change it, but it did not change even if I set it from the Windows setting screen as described in the manual (it is also possible that it was Windows 11).

There may be no problem if you are using the default settings, but if you are a person who has changed the settings to your liking, the point that it is inflexible is a minus.

By the way, Windows did not allow you to switch between virtual desktops (swipe left or right with four fingers), so people using this should also find it unsatisfactory.

And as I mentioned at the beginning, pairing and operation were successful on Windows and Mac, but on Chromebook (Chrome OS), even if pairing is possible, it does not work, and pairing itself fails, at least the current situation. I couldn't use it with the following 5 models that I tried immediately.

However, since there is no description about support for Chrome OS (Chromebook) in the manual or official website, I expected that it would not be usable, but I could not really use it, so it is a bit disappointing.

It may be compatible with my model, but if you are considering purchasing the "400-MABT128" on your Chromebook, you should be careful.

If it is not supported, it would be good if you clearly write "Not compatible with Chromebook (Chrome OS)" on the product page to reduce mistakes.

    summary

So it was a review of Sanwa Supply's Bluetooth touchpad "400-MABT128".

It's more solid than you think, and it's okay to use the basic operations as the main, but if you have customized gestures or Chromebook users, you need to be careful.

Also, for Mac users, the "Magic Trackpad" is definitely better, although it costs twice as much, so I think Sanwa Supply's "400-MABT128" is a touchpad for Windows users.

If you're a Windows user who prefers a touchpad to a mouse, you can try the Bluetooth touchpad at a reasonable price, so it's worth considering.
