When I hear HUAWEI, I get the impression that it's a maker of Sim fleece smartphones, but in fact, I also make laptops. And the Matebook X Pro reviewed by Gizmodo this time seems to be a product that is as powerful as the MacBook Pro. Worth a look!
Huawei Matebook X Pro
·What is this? : Upward compatible with MacBook Pro 13 inch
Price: 13.9 inch ultra-portable laptop
・ Favorite place: Good display design (narrow bezel)
・ I don't like it: There is no SD card slot
HUAWEI became the first laptop maker to succeed when it launched the Matebook X in the years. It's a copy of Apple's 12-inch MacBook, but with fewer shortcomings, it's a very good product.
And this Matebook X Pro is also a copy of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. However, since all the shortcomings have been improved, it is beyond the original family in every aspect.
First of all, from the similarities. Like the 13-inch MacBook Pro, it has a surprisingly high-power speaker on the left and right sides of the aluminum-carved housing, a large trackpad at the bottom, and a power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor at the top right. These are all first-class products.
The Matebook X Pro's backlit keyboard is similar (thinner) to the MacBook's, but has deeper and firmer keystrokes than the MacBook.
The port is also conscientious with two USB-C and one USB 3 Type-A (one of the USB-C is Thunderbolt 3 compatible). But to be honest, I also wanted an SD card slot.
It was this beautiful screen that caught my eye next after I was fascinated by the good design of the X Pro. In addition to being very bright (485 nits), the bezel is extremely narrow, which seems to be the narrowest laptop on the market today (March 28, 2018). The screen ratio of Dell's XPS 13 is 80.7%, while that of X Pro is 91%, which is overwhelming.
Also, the bezel at the bottom of the screen is narrower and the screen is larger, and while most of the other companies' products are 13.3 inches or less, the X Pro is a 13.9 inch 3000 x 2000 pixel touch screen. Combined with the high color reproducibility, everything displayed appeared as if it popped out.
Where did the camera go? Stored in the keyboard. It looks like only one of the function keys. When you press it, the camera comes out. I'm a little worried about the durability, but it's good that you don't have to worry about when you're not using the camera or if you're voyeur (by a hacker, etc.).
The OS is, of course, Windows 10. Not having macOS would be an unacceptable condition for fanatic Mac users (Mac die-hards), but it's not his HUAWEI's fault. I wish Apple had licensed macOS (HUAWEI would have jumped).
However, I am satisfied. Because HUAWEI has a smart contract with Microsoft for Windows 10 Pro Signature Edition, and X Pro comes with Windows 10 without any bloatware (unwanted accessory software).
The specs are also sufficient. It can also be equipped with an 8th generation Intel Core i5 / i7 CPU, up to 16GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, and optionally Nvidia's GeForce MX 150 GPU.
The strongest configuration X Pro we ordered defeated the XPS 13 and LG Gram 15 in various benchmarks. WebXPRT 2015 to measure browser performance, Photoshop image resizing test, and Geekbench 4.
Most of the work is a spec that can be done with plenty of room, but in terms of graphic performance (of MX 150), it is superior to the GPU integrated in the CPU, but it is not comparable to the GPU made with the game in mind, so there is it. be careful.
The X Pro Musou continues with battery performance. In the battery test of the US Gizmodo, it set a high record of 11 hours 7 minutes, further separating XPS 13 (9 hours 28 minutes) and Gram 15 (10 hours 39 minutes).
At this point, the X Pro seems almost perfect, but there's one thing I don't understand. The point is that the SSD of the storage was divided into two partitions (80GB and 380GB) for some reason. Since there is only one SSD itself physically, I don't know why ... That said, it's not a big deal (because they're just separated and both can be used as storage).
Ah, I want HUAWEI to disclose when, where, and how much XPro will be released as soon as possible. It is said that it will be released at an "ambitious price" in the United States, so expect the same in Japan. By the way, in Europe, a model equipped with i7 and MX 150 is on sale for 1900 euros (about 250,000 yen * Europe has a higher tax), so it will be in the same price range as the MacBook Pro 13 inch.
summary
・ The 3000 x 2000 screen is beautiful, and the bezel is the narrowest in the industry.
-The camera position (stored in the keyboard) isn't ideal, but it's better than the XPS 13, and above all, it's cool.
-Battery performance is surprisingly good considering the thinness of the housing and the good specifications.
-The optional Nvdia GeForce MX 150 GPU is not as good as a gaming GPU, but it is perfect for users who need a little graphic performance.
・ Pure Windows 10 is installed
・ Two USB-C and one USB-A have just the right ports, but I also wanted an SD card slot.
